In 2003, Linda Imlay had
committed to participate in three Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events: San Francisco, Portland and
Los Angeles. To
keep to her training plan she signed up to lead training walks. Linda’s first
walk met in March and six people showed up. Within a few weeks there were
20-30 people at each training walk.
The Warming Hut Hotties
team was born out of the group of women and men who met to train together on
the weekends in the spring and early summer of that year. The training walks
met at the Warming Hut at the newly refurbished Crissy Field in the Presidio in
San Francisco.
The location was selected because of the ample parking and access to coffee (and
snacks! Hotties love snacks!) after the walks.
Late May of 2003 it was
announced that the Breast Cancer 3 Day would be taking place in November of
that year, so the team kept walking. With many of the Avon
walkers also registered for the 3 Day walk and that fall the Warming Hut Hottie
Team had 86 walkers and we raised $216,113.
In the ten years since the team's inception we had team on 43 events, we fostered a supportive community and have left an undeniable legacy of kindness.
Since 2003 this team of ordinary women &
men collectively raised over $3.1 million for the breast cancer
cause. We believe a world
without breast cancer as a life threatening disease is possible In Our Lifetime.
